It isn't abstract. Barrie Police recorded over $100,000 in rental fraud losses targeting international students in a single year; a widely reported Kitchener case saw more than a dozen international students show up to the same “rented” unit on move-in day. The pattern is always the same: searching for housing remotely, unable to view a unit in person, with no local reference or credit history to fall back on. That's exactly the gap the verification process below exists to close.
Every practitioner: registration confirmed directly against the CICC registry or the relevant Law Society.
Every unit: visited in person or confirmed by live video tour before it reaches your shortlist.
How verification works
A practitioner or listing gets submitted
An RCIC or lawyer applies to join our network, or a landlord registers a unit for us to place clients in.
A coordinator checks it against the source
For practitioners: their registration is confirmed directly with the CICC registry or the relevant Law Society. For housing: a coordinator visits, video-tours, or otherwise confirms the unit exists and matches its listing.
The result is recorded, not assumed
Registration number, confirming coordinator, and date all get attached to the record. It's the same detail you see when you tap a Verified badge.
It's shown to clients only after that
No practitioner and no listing reaches your portal until this checklist is complete. Renewal dates are tracked so a lapsed license gets caught before you would.
